Be Still My Soul

California1 850

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Meditating on this hymn today as frustration and confusion once again surface.

Seeking to believe the Lord is on my side in the midst of hurt, as I patiently and trustingly bear this cross of chronic pain he has given me.

Trusting he will provide in all the ups and downs, changes and unpredictable fluctuations.

Thankful that I can call the Sovereign Lord my Friend in this long journey!

Though the way is long and narrow, though the pain is wearisome and heavy, the sure and joyful end of an eternal home awaits. Of this, I can be sure.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. II Corinthians 4:17

  1. I appreciate this so much. Thank you for this post! That is a beautiful hymn, one that believers sing often … and yet, it’s when we walk these kinds of valleys and bear these kinds of crosses, that the words must be more than just lip service — they must SUSTAIN US. It has taken a while to see that the Lord is on my side. It’s not easy to see this through pain, I know! But it is such a sweet (maybe only?) comfort in the darkness. I hope He continues to remind you of this and hopefully soon, you will be seeing some stronger and better days!

  2. Sounds like we are in the same place right now. I have spent the last 48hr clinging to Him, hoping that there is joy waiting for me when the suffering ends.
    He walks beside us even when we feel distant.
    Hang in there.
