Counting Down to the New Year is a series of 12 posts in which I reflect on 2014 and prepare for 2015.
Philippians 3:7-8 reminds me of what is most important.
But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage that I may gain Christ…
II Corinthians 1:3-4 reminds me of one purpose behind my pain.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any troubles with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.
Ephesians 2:10 reminds me there is work to do, work that was carefully hand-prepared to suit specific strengths, abilities, and deficits.
or we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Psalm 27:14 reminds me to take courage and breathe.
Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.
Five counts of breathing in -“Wait for the Lord, whose day is near.” And many more counts of breathing out –“Wait for the Lord, be strong, take heart.”
Proverbs 3:5 reminds me that my human understanding of life is limited. Sometimes we need pure and simple trust.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding…
Philippians 3:20-21 reminds me of where I am going. Hope is a wonderful thing.
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
