How I’m Preparing for 2017

I love the fresh start of a new year. I love planning and preparing, as I consider what I want the next year to look like. The habits and goals that I want to carry forward, the ones I want to leave behind, and the new ways of doing things I want to consider.

This week I have used some specific tools to help me in this process, and I thought I would share them with you in case you might find them helpful as well.

Reading this book. I am about 2/3rds of the way through a book called Do More Better. I can already see myself implementing some of the productivity tips from this book into 2017.  Reading it has been a great way to get into preparation mode, especially  as I consider how I will effectively tackle some of the writing projects I have planned for 2017.

Answering these questions. Last night and this morning I went through most of the questions that can be found at the very bottom of this blog post. Check them out because they are super helpful!

Setting goals. I think about goals at the beginning of each year. This year I set personal goals, work goals, health goals, writing goals, and goals related to family and friends. I still use the basic premise of this post as I go through this process.

Resting. During the week between Christmas and New Years, I am spending a lot of time resting. It feels great to be on vacation, and my body desperately needs it. I have been getting a lot of reading in, which has been great. I was so excited to start Truly, Madly, Guilty, which I have been waiting to be available through my library for a long time.

Setting up a countdown. Finally, I spent some time creating a countdown between now and when I hope to finish my hours towards LCPC licensure. I will have 18 weeks from the beginning of the year until my projected finish date. I created the countdown because I think it will help me stay motivated. Each week, I get to cross off another seven days done, completed. Each week, I get to write down how many hours I gained and how many are left. I already feel more motivated just looking at it and imagining crossing out the weeks 🙂

As I processed the questions above and set goals for the coming year, I was struck by how 2017 is going to be a year of huge change. I am anticipating a number of significant transitions that I believe will be positive, which I am looking forward to.

What are you looking forward to in 2017?

  1. I really like the book you are reading, do more better, especially since it is written by A Christian author. Like yourself, I like the fresh start of a new year. Tomorrow, I will ponder what I would like to achieve, with the Lord’s help in 2017. Thank you, for all your encouraging posts throughout the year! 💕
